I have been taking Effexor XR for about a week and a half and the effects have been immediate and largely positive. My Dr ramped me up to 150 mg pretty quickly - I've taken my first 150 mg dose today as a matter of fact.
I've been experiencing pretty bad night sweats and waking up consistently at 3 am very thirsty and very sweaty. Will the sweats last as long as I am on the meds? What about the other SE like constipation and headache and stomach upset? What can I look forward to?
Any experience would be very much appreciated.
Thanks,
Twirleygirl

The side effects vary according to person, some go away with time, and some seem to go away with increased dosage. For me, night sweats lasted only a few weeks. Waking in the middle of the night had more to do with having to pee. Thirstyness decreased a little, but is still present after more than 6 months. I can deal with thirst, personally. I needed to drink more water! The thirst thing seems to wax and wane depending on stress levels and activity levels. Good luck and since you notice a beneficial effect, stick it out for a while.

Side effects vary, some stay, and some go away. I had the initial constipation. Later I had trouble sleeping. The worst thing is when you reduce dosage. Be prepared for things to happen about 2-3 days after reduction of dose, like nightmares and vivid dreaming, unstable emotions. Not everyone has the same problems with this drug. I had to get off of it altogether. But it did work well in the beginning for me, it gave me more energy, and seemed to get me out of the depression. Eventually though, it increased the anxiety, after I added Wellbutrin in an attempt to eliminate the sexual side effects.
