Survector: Any knowledge of this wonder drug?

Posted by hiba on October 8, 2002, at 23:22:14

Hi everyone,

Wellbutrin really disappointed me, as it only contributed aggravate my depression. I am really in search of an antidepressant which will not cause any sexual side effects. The news I heard about wellbutrin was really encouraging, as it is supposed to enhance libido, rather than diminish it. But after using it for a couple of weeks, I found it is not the medicine that is fit for me. I had nothing while on it but a return of my depressive symptoms.
So still hopefully, I am searching for an alternate to prozac. I have seen somewhere someone mentioned SURVECTOR (Amineptine). I know it is no longer available in U.S. What was the problem with it? Is it available anywhere in the world ? In the abstracts of some psychiatric journals, it is mentioned as a wonder drug which will resolve depression quite rapidly and enhance libido with almost a benign side effect profile. Does anyone have experience with Survector ?
This is a deperate search of an unfortunate SSRI victim who lost his sexual desire completely because of the SSRI experiment. I need to be on an antidepressant. Benzo monotherapy will not click at this time, because I have travelled far enough with SSRIs and a come back to Klonopin or other benzo monotherpy is very unlikely to solve my problems now. Please advise
HIBA

Amineptine is, as far as I know, not being made any more. It was not approved in the USA because it had potential for abuse. The FDA then bullied other countries into taking amineptine off the market. The whole business is a shame since amineptine was the only selective dopamine reuptake inhibitor around.

Have you tried any TCAs, or MAOIs? They have somewhat less of a tendency to inhibit libido.

Feel better,

Britt

I think the brand name Stablone is another version of tianeptine, if it's the same thing you're referring to. I tried it and it was no big deal, certainly not a wonder drug. It had a mild stimulant effect.

Correct,

Survector was never available in US (doubt that any drug like it ever will be), the FDA reached out and "destroyed" it in Europe, leaving many pdocs and their patients "high and dry". Only available in South America at high cost...from what I have found on the net.

I agree with Britt.....MAOIs probably the best bet for TRD unless you are willing to try ECT. I have decided to try ECT since the FDA has made a move to controll the ECT machines (against the polite protest of Max Fink M.D.).....can't assume ECT will be around forever either.
