Hi. I usually have a lot of dreams and remember them the next day. My dreams are vivid and often entertaining and odd.
However, I don't remember having any dreams for about three weeks.
I miss them!
Anyone else experience this change? Thoughts on what it might signify?
I'm not on meds right now, though doc thinks I shd try Wellbutrin for depression.
Thanks.

Maybe you should take an anti-depressant, they helped me to remember a lot of dreams. I feel better now couse I'm acting on them.

depression usually leads to problems sleeping, which affects dreaming. when i became seriously depressed, i didn't have enough deep sleep to dream, so i had not had a dream in several months. within days of taking antidepressants, i started dreaming vividly. depression also lowers your ability to have insight into your problems. it is possible this happens partly due to the fect that you don't dream. of course, there is the whole big debate about what dreams are and what they do. it does seem beneficial to dream. i would definately try the med. good luck.

I always have trouble relating when people are unhappy about not dreaming. To me, this would be heaven! My dreams are just annoying messes... too jumbled and incoherent to even recount in most cases (which irritates my pdoc, since he likes to analyze dreams). And to the extent these dreams are lucid, they usually involve insecurities and unpleasant emotions. (Fyi, I'm not depressed.) So, mopey, if you want trade no-dreaming for mine, let's talk!
I realize that most people *do* like to dream. And once in awhile I do have a very pleasant or poignant one. But the one surprise side effect of the MAOI Nardil that I *greatly* appreciated (vs. the other s.e.'s, which were awful), is that it suppresses memory of dreams. (This is apparently a documented effect.) So if you do want to dream, avoid Nardil.

I found the following suppliments enhanced dreaming:
1) B vitamins - especially B6!
2) 5-HTP - just a little (50mg) worked well
3) SAM-e - probably for the same reasons as #2
4) Calcium/magnesium seems to ward off nightmarish content
