Anyone have good luck with a particular mood stabilizer for pain? I was prescribed neurontin but was too sedated. Considering topomax. I'd be interested to hear what's worked and what hasn't.
Thanks,
Lia

Topamax is as sedating as Neurontin, if not worse. Give a try to Lamictal. It is an activating anticonvulsant/mood stabilizer which works great as pain killer.
I'm not a pain sufferer myself, but i've heard that a combo Lamictal + Neurontin works the best.
Good luck.

Well, depends on the pain.Different stuff works for different pain. Neuralgia? Tegretol is an old standby, although they've retooled it as Trileptal and it's much better. I liked it. I'm not too inpressed with Lamictal in general, too rashy, too fat making, not that impressive. But you may love it!
So there's two, and a pain management type psychiatrist (or neuro?) will have more ideas. Think about this- It's a subspecialty and could save you a lot of time and misery.
