Anyone on Lamictal Monotherapy/ssri sexual probs

Posted by Roo on January 5, 2002, at 19:15:30

Just wondering...I take 100mg's lamictal along with 1200 neurotin,
and 20 mg's prozac. I'd like to ax the prozac b/c of
sexual problems, but I'm scared of my depression coming
back. Is there anyone out there who has had success
remedying their depression with just lamictal without
the addition of an antidepressant (especially an ssri)?

Also, just curious--is there anyone out there that
DOSEN'T have sexual dysfunction on an ssri, and if
so which one is it? (I've had it on prozac and celexa,
and to a smaller degree, with desipramine) Wellbutrin
and serzone don't work for me. Unfortunately it seems
the ssri's work best for my depression.

Tried ditching my SSRI (Zoloft) and just going with Lamical, but it sucked.

I get by on a very low dose of Zo, though, and it doesn't shut me down libido-wise. I've read here I think Neurontin can also be a libido culprit.

There is a lot of talk about using gingko biloba for SSRI-induced sexual dysfunction. Perhaps you could look into that. Take care...

In descending order of probability, SSRIs, Neurontin and Lamictal can all cause sexual problems for both men and women. Viagra seems to be the most effective treatment, also for both men and women. Doses of 100 mg often work when there is no response to 50 mg doses.

my experience with Lamictal as a (AD)monotherapy has been a real failure, though I have reached even 450mg Lamictal doses ; so,I have had to switch back to my successful Celexa(40mg)adm.and reconsidering the REintroduction of Lamictal, lower doses,as AUGMENTATION and eventually as a Mood Stabilizer for a BP2(as I am considered to be)
While SSRI's in general are indeed affecting the sexual life(less seriously would affect Celexa),Lamictal on the other hand,is even quite enhancing it,so the combo may be good in all terms
waiting for similar observations and conclusions
