Living is strange & foreign to me, and I’ve never liked it. I have my times when I would give anything to die, feel like I am going absolutely crazy, very depressed, can’t handle anything, etc. But for the past little while, I haven’t dipped too deep. I usually manage to put on appearances and keep up my responsibilities. I’ve tried the first line meds, & it seems Prozac helps a little. MY QUESTION IS- HOW LIKELY IS IT THAT MED WILL HELP W/ MY FOLLOWING PROBLEMS? I AM TRYING TO WEIGH THE $ COST VS. BENEFIT. I have no insurance, and am also nervous that my trials would lead to errors, feeling worse.
FEEL UNSTABLE – alone or with people.
EMPTINESS (I know this is a symptom of Borderlines, but I don't "act" like they do.)
For Example: Feel empty, got to get out. Will go hang out at a friends, feel restless shortly after, and need to leave. Always trying to be where I'm not.
DON’T FEEL LIKE DOING ANYTHING, but hate doing nothing.
INDECISIVE/UNSUREOther less important ones:
Reading is annoying
Hard time finding words

Just a fast hunch-but try a generic MAOI inhibitor like phenelzine or tranylcypromine. It is very cheap and might work quite well for those symptoms. Just a guess.hope this helps,
Mitch

For me, a feeling of instability and frustration is part of ADD, about my life overall, about hanging out with friends for very long, etc.
Ritalin makes life a million times easier. I was just diagnosed this year, at 30. I would have denied the idea to the grave as I did well in school but that mindset apparently only delays diagnosis. There's a long quiz at mindfixers.com that I found helpful. Might as well rule it out.
Some of the overlap between borderline and ADD: easily discouraged, emotional/moody, highs and lows, odd relationships with friends and lovers, tendency to have trouble with authority, trouble seeing options (called black and white or switching I think for borderline, called trouble switching thoughts/tasks, and impulsivity for ADD). And high risk behavior, speeding, minor law things, or just feeling alive when in an argument or right after relationships have changed. Feeling overwhelmed by demands and other people's needs sometimes but not always. Things that are upsetting are sometimes done anyhow for the stimulation of it.
There are also traits like messiness, difficulty organizing, being late or lost, that go with ADD but not borderline.
Usually people with ADD will have overall odd responses to meds.
As far as meds go, I liked moclobemide, the new maoi that has no food restrictions, not available easily in the US. But really what does it for me are the stimulants, ritalin etc. Also Wellbutrin is sometimes used. (I got really agitated and suicidal on it.)
So just an idea, not saying you sound like you do have ADD, just thinking perhaps there is some mystery issue that prevents you from feeling satisfied (and ADD is the one I'm familiar with).

Take the quiz that katekite mentioned on mindfixers.com. It can be quite helpful. Also if you have a good relationship with a doctor and explain that you have no insurance right now they may give you quite a few samples for now. Mine helped a lot before. Good luck. Restlessness alone can make anyone feel unstable.

Thank you for your replies. I did take the test, but I don't qualify for ADD. What happens when you only have SOME of the symptoms? Will they still give you meds? For example- I am not impulsive, usually organized, but am very restless.

It could be that you are just anxious. You don't have to be ADD to feel restless. There have been many a time that my boyfriend and myself have felt restless when anxious.
