Good News Needed About Tinnitus (ringing ears)

Posted by tinker on April 14, 2002, at 11:32:19

Hi I would like to hear from anyone who developed tinnitus from taking medication. How long did you have it, can you now take other meds, Has it gone away completely Does it ever come back as bad as when you first had it. I got tinnitus from zoloft. It is just about gone, but I'm not sure how this will effect me in future, so I would like to see what other people have experienced. Tinker

I guess you know yours is from Zoloft, but this is a reminder to all that it can happen for any number of reasons. Someone on this board said that even pain relievers can cause this problem. I think mine is from grinding my teeth. I sometimes have it, but I am usually able to wiggle my ear around, and it will go away.

The scary thing was when I was standing in line at the store and lost all hearing in one ear and heard a really loud hum. It lasted a second, and it's happened only once since then. This stuff freaks me out.

Tinnitus can be from SO many causes. Chief among them with the baby-boomers from the "acid" days are having your hearing damamged from loud music. If this is a contributing cause (like me), it never leaves. And yes, Aspirin & acetaminophen can cause it too. The list goes on...

Don't worry, Beire-dei - all this humming, ringing, & buzzing can be very entertaining, espcially at night when it can serve to distract your mind for sleep. I can get several tones going at once with variations & different sounds in diff ears - kind of like a strange concert of my own.
