Klonopin withdrawel?

Posted by amber_spirit on April 4, 2002, at 8:40:15

Hi - I'm a newbie but want to thank you all for
the tons of info you've provided already. I'm
suffering from depression and "probably" BPII.

Anyway, question is about klonopin withdrawel
which I've seen mentioned. I was on Effexor (150mg)
& klonopin (1mg) for about 2 yrs. Then started having
trouble sleeping, increased anxiety, depression. Pdoc
figured klonopin loosing effectiveness so tapered
off at 0.5 per week and tried trazodone. Made me
hyper as hell. Now I'm on Neurontin 300 (2x) and
ambien to sleep. I just assumed insomnia etc was
recurring depression but is it klonopin w/drawel?
If so, what are the symptoms and how long does it
take to get this out of my system?

Thanks for any info.

AS

Hi,

Tapering the klonopin can definately give you rebound insomnia, there is no doubt about this.
Its likely that you may struggle with this until you are off the medicine completely, unless you are using sleep aids like ambien.
Tapering the medicine more slowly will alleviate rebound symptoms, but you obviously trade-off time to get off the medicine.

Best Wishes,
John
