Hi. I'd like to hear from anyone who has taken Memantine. I think it's the same thing as Amantidine, isn't it? I'd like to know what you used it for, was it helpful, and how were the side effects? Did you find that it impaired or enhanced your memory, learning and cognition?
I've heard that one possible therapeutic application for the future is that it might prevent or delay stimulant tolerance.
Thank you for any information.

Hi Bekka,Memantine is not the same thing as Amantadine.
Memantine (Akatinol) is used in Germany as a
neuroprotective medication. It can be used for
many different medical issues. There is a lot
of information at www.memantine.com.Some researchers believe this type of medication
(an NMDA antagonist) can stabilize a pathway
in the brain that causes sensitization/tolerance
to addictive medications. Most of the stories regarding
the use of memantine for this purpose are anecdotal.
A few people on this newsgroup have posted success
stories using memantine to help with stimulant
tolerance.
Regards,
John

Bekka,
Did you ever get any more info about Memantine or Amantadine? Or ask your Pdoc to try it? Tolerance is getting the better of me.
