back from doc's office...

Posted by sid on February 7, 2002, at 10:11:16

Well... my doc gave me zaleplon to get me to sleep faster at night. I have trouble falling asleep, but once that's achieved, I sleep well. It's expensive though and not covered by my insurance. But apparently there's no dependence to it.

I'm staying at 75mg of Effexor XR a day at least another 3 weeks (been at that level for 1 month), until our next meeting. I am doing quite fine overall. Once the sleep issue is resolved, I'll be doing very well I think. There has been definite improvement in my dysthymia and anxiety since I started the Effexor XR. Not just my impression - she confirmed it, after drilling me with many many questions.

So not much new, but things going rather well. Actually, if I consider my life history, that in itself is new! Yippiiiiii!!!!!!!!!!!

Sonata sounds good, then (although my dad and I both tried it and it didn't do anything for either of us).

Yes, it's supposed to be like Ambien in that regard.

I think that's great. Such a low dose, too.

You know, I agree that an outside observer's opinion is a good way to confirm that a medication is helping, but I really don't like the way that psychiatrists sometimes seem to be encouraging us not to trust our own experiences at all. It's very invalidating (to use some psychobabble -- heh heh). I *know* when a drug is helping me and when it isn't. (And my own mother knows better than some doctor who just met me that I need my medication. No, of course I'm not bitter. < g >)

:-) Keep doing well for me. And more importantly, for you.

Thanks for your support.

Well, I've been sleeping VERY well and a bit much the past 2 days. I've been taking Immodium Advanced and Gravol like they're candy, so I had no need for the saleplon yet.

I took someone's garlic bread at a restaurant on Thursday night. She offered since she had braces put in her mouth that day and was in too much pain to even try the bread. She was eating pasta... seafood pasta, which I didn't know. I tasted some sauce on the bread, became suspicious and asked: what's in the sauce? Mussels... I went running to the nearest pharmacy for the above mentioned meds... thus avoiding "The Exorcist"-like reaction, and could stay for the rest of a friend's retirement party.

So until now, sleeping has not been a problem! Will try the zalepon when I need it.
