I HAVE ALWAYS RESPONDED WELL TO BUSPAR AND ADDED IT
TO MY EFFEXOR WEAN AND HAVE HAD NO PROBLEMS AT ALL.
I AM SOO EXCITED BECAUSE AFTER READING ALL THE HORROR STORIES, IT WAS SUCH A BREEZE. FOR SOME REASON BUSPAR
GIVES ME ENERGY AND ACTS AS AN ANTIDEPRESSANT WITH MY
CHEMISTRY. I JUST THOUGHT I WOULD SHARE THIS.......I
AM NOT RECOMMENDING IT TO ANYONE, BUT I WANTED TO SHARE A POSITIVE STORY. I DO HAVE A SUPPLY OF EFFEXOR ON HAND IF I FIND I AM GETTING SOME OF THE SYMPTOMS DESCRIBED WHEN WEANING. I DID HAVE A SMALL
BOUT OF THE BRAIN SWOOSH AND SIMPLY TOOK 75MG EFFEXOR
AND IT WENT AWAY. ANY COMMENTS ARE WELCOME. THE WEANING PROCESS HAS TAKEN ABOUT 1 WEEK. I WENT FROM 150MG EFFEXOR, TO 75MG, TO NO EFFEXOR.

Hi Angel1,
I just started to wean myself off of effexor myself. I put out a posting asking if anyone had a postive way of doing it. I am on 150mg and the last 2 nights have only taken 75mg. With everything I've been reading here I am waiting for the bottom to drop out - LOL.
Did you gain weight on effexor? I was really surprise to hear from so many people that they did gain weight my doctor told me that wouldnt happen?? I have started to put on weight and couldnt figure out why. Since I believe the effexor could be the problem I am weaning myself off it. Other than that I actually liked it. I am also on wellbutrin 300mg in the morning. You had mentioned "BUSPAR" I am not familar with that - could you tell me about it?
Thanks,
Renee

Hi Renee,
buspar is marketed as an anti-anxiety medication,
but they say it also has anti-depressant properties. A lot of people who take it say it doesn't do much for them, but for me it gives me energy and makes me happy and gives my libido a boost as well. It is often used as an adjunct with ssris. I had to take 75mg of effexor today cuz I started to feel dizzy. Not sure exactly what that was from.. I may just stay on low dose Effexor with the buspar. Yes, effexor caused me to gain weight. I'm not sure if that happened because I became completely lethargic on effexor and could not work out at a high energy level like I normally do, or if it altered my metabolism in some way. I just felt constantly tired and my boyfriend asked me, would I rather be tired all the time and not depressed, or be depressed. Well, to tell you the truth, I felt kind of flat on Effexor, not really happy and full of life, like I feel now. It was not such a great drug for me. I have not told my pdoc that I am doing this. But I feel really good. Hope this helps and you find something that brings you back to your happy self. let me know if you need anything else. More than happy to help.Angel1

Hi Angel, If I really think about it, I was the same way. Not really happy not really sad - just there and I was having an endurance problem when I would run my long distances, which I never had before.
Since you didnt go to your doctor yet is it possible to get that Buspar without a presciption? You also mentioned you gained weight and you have been off effexor for a week or more. Have you noticed any of your weight coming off yet?
I am just so upset about this weight gain. My doctor told me that I wouldnt gain weight on effexor or wellbutrin, which I am on also.
Thanks for the info,
Renee

Reneeb, I totally feel you! I am really upset about gaining this weight especially when my doc said I would probably loose weight! I have been off Effexor completely for about a week and haven't noticed weight loss yet. Unfortunately it takes longer to loose than to put on. So I am trying to be patient and do my best to eat healthy and exercise. As for the Buspar, you can't get it w/ out a perscription.
This is the end of the thread.
