Mitch, yor posts say they are from "Ritch," Unless you are in fact Ritch and signing them "Mitch." Are you the same kind fellow that helped me through my Gabitril horror? Mitch/Ritch, my poor brain is confused ;-) lol..heh heh

Yep, it's me. I have had problems with my ISP, email, all sorts of stuff. It seems that everytime I upgrade something from my ISP a host of trouble comes along with it.

I read your post about your doctor being convinced that you are bipolar. Are you still taking Adderall? What meds are you taking now-if you don't mind my asking.

I think I am going to have to stop the Wellbutrin. I just took a 1/4 tab yesterday and today(of a 75mg pill) and I feel a *lot* better. I finally slept last nite soundly. I swear I don't think I have slept for about four days. I lay down and close my eyes and rest, but I am not really sleeping. It is really weird. I also have been hearing some music playing that is not there (when I am listening to other music). It is better today. Between the WB and sleep deprivation I think I may be getting some type of temporal lobe jazz going again. This is strange, but I cycle through this every year at this time. I start getting more superstitious, hearing music *in music*, more religious, etc., I start feeling like I am clairvoyant or something-like I can predict the future based on some ordinary everyday event as a predictor. Oh well, sorry for the rant, but it is rather peculiar...

Mitch:

Certainly sounds manic. Aren't you just on Neurontin? What about adding Depakote back for awhile?

MB:

What type of "Gabatril horror" did you experience? Can you post a link to the old discussion, or maybe just describe it?

Thanks,

Bob

Hi KrazyKat,

Yes it does sound a little manic. I *have* added a little Trileptal (150mg) in the afternoons before I go to work and it has helped some. I am avoiding the Depakote (because of the munchies/weight gain/cognitive fuzziness). I haven't gotten hostile or anything which is a *good* sign. Really, it boils down to watching what antidepressants I take very carefully. If I avoid something that is destabilizing then it makes it a lot easier.
But, the TLE thing is entirely possible. My Mom had nocturnal generalized seizures. I talked to my brother a few weeks ago and he told me of a couple of occasions when he was a kid (40 years ago) where she had some seizures during the *daytime* and it scared my brother and he ran out of the house. He said my Mom made funny sounds and weird facial expressions. That seems to fit a complex partial seizure. My Mom tells me that she doesn't remember any of her seizures, but she thinks they only happened during sleep. From what my brother says, she had them during the day, too. I know she has told me that she feels *funny* before they happen (she gets some type of auras). She still takes some Dilantin now when she feels *funny*-being afraid she is going to have one.
Another weird thing is that she told me that when she had the grand mal nocturnal seizures she would have dreams about "flying". Well, I used to get these dreamy things involving flying around the neighborhood when I was a teenager, and that preceded my mood problems. Now you can see why I might feel a little supersitious.
The best way to explain it is that: I don't believe something false (like a delusion), it just seems that something ordinary takes on an increased *significance* that relates to a possible future event. I guess you could call it a "hypersignificancy" of sorts.

WOW, that sounds like what I used to experience with amphetamine psychosis years ago (drugs + sleep deprivation leads me to auditory hallucinations and religiously based delusions of grandeur). Get some sleep man! I'm worried about you. Is the cycle purely seasonal or due to the Wellbutrin?

I liken my Gabitril experience to drinking two bottles of Robitussin DM. Very dissociative-anesthetic feeling like a low dose of PCP. I'd look from one thing to another, and it would take my brain two seconds to catch up.

I like Neurontin much better...maybe not as much "horsepower," but much more tolorable!

Oh, I *slept* it just was real light sleep. It was like taking a nap and "resting your eyes". I felt fatigued during the day-so it wasn't really a manic episode. I feel rested now that I cut the WB in half. For some reason-anything that promotes "turning up the sleep/wake contrast control" helps my cycling, attentiveness, everything. Sleep deprivation can take different forms IMO. If your sleep architecture is all hosed up and you don't get good rest-it is nearly the same as staying up for days. The last two nites I have slept very soundly and woke easily. Thanks for the concern,

Mitch

Yeah, that "light-almost-non-sleep" doesn't seem to help as much as a "real" night's sleep. Glad you're doing better. Sleep deprivation is kinda cool though...sometimes i think it has an antidepressant effect (probably because it makes me manic). Anyway...glad you're better.
