Anyone with positive neurontin experience?

Posted by cara52 on January 20, 2002, at 22:50:51

Just added this med into a combo of tegretol (1600mg)
and parnate (fluctuating between 60 to 90 mg seeing
sometimes I have to back off because it causes mania at
too high a dose but I get depressed at too low a dose-
anyway just added neurontin in - I took one 600mg
tab and i was lying on the couch in a heroin like high
for 2 days - surprisingly though my speech was
extremely clear and I was able to shake it off whenever
I wanted and function well- that effect has gone away
in that intensity at least and i am taking 3200mg of
neirontin in a every 3 hour ( this includes at night)
dosing schedule - what are others experiences with
neurontin and what has been the most effective dosing
frequency and amount for you?
Peace

Jeez, that is a lot more Neurontin than I'm taking. I've never taken more than 400mg at once (took it at night because of sedation) and I've never taken more than 1200mg in a day. I find that it is one of the more gentle psychiatric drugs I've taken. Mellows me out when I'm agitated, but it seems to take a long time to kick in, and when it kicks in it doesn't seem to last very long. Maybe I need to get to a higher dose? Seems like you're doing well on a very high dose. I don't want to be zombified though. I have to be able to function moderately well.

Howdy. At one point I was taking a combo that included Neurontin 800/mg. four times a day. At first I got a pleasant high from it, but after a while it just gave me a relaxed calm feeling. It was a fairly effective mood stabilizer. I later added Topomax to help curb mixed states & my appetite. I had no noticeable side fx from the Neurontin. It's one of my top 10 fav meds. Take care.
