so i med with my shrink yesterday (thursday) he told me he was very sorry that we went through all this bla bla bla but he will not be able to write a script for buprenex because "the DEA will be at his door"
His recommendation was to check into the hospital at Mclean and see what they think...
now first of all what kind of money does this guy think i have just to take a little trip into boston to check into a hospital that my insurance would find many reasons not to pay for
second
why should i have to check into the hospital just to get a script for buprenex instead of having to go through ECT. from my perspective, however scewed it might be, ECT seems just a tad more serious than buprenex.third
at the end of the session i told him that it seemed that there was nothing left for me to do so he told me he thought i should get a second opinion. I've been seeing this guy for a year and that's what he tells meluckily i have an appointment today with a women who comes recommended. Some time ago i went through a bunch of tests on the brain, and reactions to light and all sorts of stuff. Of course the doctor never told me what the results were except "my head seemed to be screwed on backwards" and i should go off all my meds to do the test again. which was extremly expensive.
this doctor who i am going to see tonight, her name is Eileen Difrancesco, M.D.
Board of psychiatry and neurolgy
Board certified psychopharmacologista friend of mine from a columbia outpatient group really liked her
it doesn't matter, but it's nice to at least imagine for the chance of meeting someone who might bring some hope
the other morning i was sitting on my girlfriend's coach (she is really supportive) and i was trying to breathe really carefully cause i didn't want to start crying all over the place
it's just so gross. When i look back and watch how the dominos how continued falling, even if there is a break now and then, from 25 years of age till now 33, my mom who is really wonderful can only hold on to helping me for so much longer till i'll be on disabillity, which is another struggle in itself. they denied me the first time but they do that to everyone so i'm told.
it's hard not looking back and seeing through the window when i was working full time as an actor, in plays, so i was supporting my self through being a waiter, but still.....

I don't think Buprenex is available in the US. It is generally used for Heroin detox, and is a much higher dosage, 2mg or higher.
Liquid Temgesic (ampuoles 0.3mg/ml) is the only Buprenorphine available by Rx in the US.
Bup is what, Schedule IV or V? Right up there with Xanax and Klonopin. The DEA will NOT come knocking at your Doctor's door! No, You just happen to have a P-Doc who is a serious coward. I would drop him/her based on this.
You are fighting for your minds life, yet your "guide" is afraid of their own shadow! This is simply unacceptable.
If all else fails, you can buy the meds online. I've done it. It's certainly cheaper and easier than all this bloody nonsense you are being asked to endure.
This wonderful country of ours has some serious f*cking problems!!

Bupernex IS available, it will NOT bring the DEA to your doctor's door--can you say unconscious judgement?--and I know a pharmacy in Northern California who turns it into gummy-bupe, for exact dosaging. Be glad to help. Find the highest up guy you can, the most cutting edge and one really intrigues by molecules and the mind--he won't judge you, he'll be fascinated. Barring that, find someone kind.Good Luck!

thanks for the replies,
saw a new shrink last friday. she was cool. didn't seem to have a huge issue with buprenex BUT like most/any doctor she wants to give lamictal a try and switch (again) back to the anti-depressant wellbutrin, which i've been on twice i believe. some time ago.
She said buprenex is still in trial phasis. Which i know for a fact is bullshit. She told me Ultram is a possibility.
but as you know starting with a new shrink, and if you push for something to much there just going to think your feending for it and want it for the wrong reason. at this point i don't care what the reason is.
Question?
should i just be blatantly honest and say i understand all your expertise in dealing with similiar cases as mine but i don't want to go through the next month waiting for something to effect me that has never done so in the past.
question?
why would she think buprenex is in clinical trials. I know it's in clinical trials for detox. but that's it. For pain, or depression it's legal. Am i wrong in this?

Reese, be totally honest with her. I'm not always sure it's the best for everybody but damned if I'm going to change my integrity to adjust to every different doctor I deal with. It may backfire on the odd doctor but most will appreciate your honesty.
Doctors sometimes have a heavy workload & can't always keep abreast of what stages new drugs are at. They may try to but it's possible she hasn't heard that buprenex is no longer just in trial phase. Let her know & give her the source of your info for her to check too.
Explain to her your fears about trying all the same meds you've done before & explain WHY too. Ask her nicely, if she'd be willing to forego those meds & try something new. She should be able to get ahold of your older medical reprots to verify that you've tried them before.
If she's still reluctant, be agreeable & give it a shot, but tell her if there's no benefits soon, you'd like to switch.
Firm resolve tempered with politeness & honesty is always the best way to deal with doctors, I think.
