merida psychotic reaction ??

Posted by carin on January 9, 2002, at 22:26:44

having had good weight loss results myself on meridia and also feeling ok depression free {history of treatment for depression chronic recurring, with good results from ssri's} I have witnessed a friend of 8 years on a trial of meridia{she also has history of long term depression and stopped celexia in favor of merida}become more and more agitated ' displaying hostile behavior to others and extreme poor coping. Ive seen this behavior in her before but not for several years. to get to the point, her doctor now says she has had a psychotic reaction to meridia. I did not see any profound reality break' and am wondering if anyone can relate ?

Sounds like she may need a neuroleptic in order to stay on the Meridia. But it seems to me like she should go off the drug entirely to preserve her emotional health and well-being.

thanks that was the decision.she will remain on a neuroleptic as well as restart celexa after a 3 day wash out period.this has been another exausting crisis in what seems to be a never resolving series. I think her most accurate diagnisis is boarderline personality disorder which saddens me I keep hoping she will get better, in spite of years of therapy not much changes, it does get different. I think it's time for me to let go with love.
