Risperdal, how does it work? what does it do?

Posted by adamie on December 13, 2001, at 17:36:41

hi. Risperdal is part of my combo. I am currently taking 50mg zoloft, 0.5mg risperdal, and ativan 0.5mg 3 times a day. I suffer from very severe depression and I guess anxiety but maybe that is all from the depression. Like all the negative thoughts. worrying a lot. little self confidence. but on my current combo i seem to have enough confidence. enough to want to even live with someone with less fear of rejection which i would have a lot of previously. i feel livable currently. huge depression left but at least it isn't constantly painful to be alive. and at least i'm not suicidal.

i was wondering what type of effect does risperdal have on people?

Hi adamie,

I've been on Risperdal (ranging from .50-1.00 mg per day)for almost 3 months now. I take it as an adjunct to my 20 mg. of daily Prozac. Risperdal is used as a mood stabilizer, not for depression.
What it does for me is even my moodiness out.
Being Bi-Polar II with irritablity, depression, OCD or ruminating thoughts...it helps with the majority of those symptoms. The Prozac helps with the depression and gives me an energy boost.
When I only take an AD, I still have the roller coaster moods and tend to become a bit manic so the Risperdal helps keep me a bit calmer.

This is the way Risperdal helps me :-)

Best Wishes,
Robin
