Neurontin causing depression

Posted by ivoovi on November 26, 2001, at 0:04:44

Hi, my pdoc put me on neurontin to help with anxiety -- and it certainly does help, but im soooo depressed on it. Is this just me? or has anyone heard of this occuring anywhere else? (so my doctor doesn't think im a freak and making this up)!

thanks!

Hi Chris.

Neurontin helps my depression. The problem is you have to take it 4 times/day every six hours because of its short half-life.

If you miss a dose, you'll feel like s..t in 8-10 hrs -- it's like clockwork.

Yes, that was my problem. Thank you for your input. I notice that about 1hour after taking it it IMMEDIATELY relieves my depression (im also on wellbutrin......which doesn't do much alone). So, I'll keep dosing throughout the day. Is it ok to take it every 8 hours or should I take it every 6?

Thanks,
Chris

Hey Chris:

Depends on your dosage. You should try to space them out evenly through the day, no more than 600mg at each dosing. I take 6 throughout the day (600s), and it's about a 3 and a half to 4 hour dosing schedule. How much do you take? If I feel badly, Pat C. is right, it's because I've forgotten to take my neurontin (sick, isn't it? seriously, I'm going to ask the company that makes it, Parke-Davis, I think, to make them in orange chewables, maybe add some vitamin C?).

Anyway, hope this helps,

Wendy
