Hi I'm weaning off of Effexor XR because it made me too sick for two months. I had increaed it to 75mg and the side effects just got worse. I was taking Xanax to take the withdrawal edge off and went to a new pdoc yesterday who wanted me to take 1mg of Klonopin in the morning and then 2 at night, plus take 10mg of Celexa to help with the withdrawals of the Effexor XR. Has anyone had this combination of Celexa and Klonopin? I'm going to cut back the dose of the Klonopin tomorrow since the level I was at knocked me out so bad today. I'm not sure if I'll stay on the Celexa after this withdrawal period, especially if it causes more anxiety and insomnia. I have Chronic Fatigue and can't handle that stress on my body anymore. Does this combo work if I choose to stay on them? Don't want to be floating in a fog everyday. Thanks Teri

Celexa plus Klonopin didn't work out well for me, but I know others have had a lot of success with this combo. I found it caused me to feel anywhere from apathetic to outright sedated.
Are you taking a stimulating med to offset drug-induced (or spontaneously occuring) sedation? (Excuse me if my ignorance about CFS is showing!) I'm a big fan of Provigil, which is a fairly new, low-addiction-potential, gentler, low-side-effect psycho-stimulant. It's in the same U.S. controlled-substance class as Klonopin, meaning it is much less restricted than Ritalin or amphetamine-realted stims. I can't say it's never happened, but I haven't heard of anyone becoming addicted to Provigil or having trouble getting off of it. Besides reducing fatigue, it's also been shown to increase the effectiveness of AD's and increase confidence and enthusiasm (and not just in me!). Doing a little searching through the newsgroups, I see everything from glowing praise to "hated it!" from CFS sufferers using Provigil. I use it as part of a cocktail for non-depressive Social Phobia. I originally added it just to counter med-induced fatigue, but was pleasantly surprised to experience other, unexpected benefits as well.
But again, getting back to you original question (now that I've given my third Provigil plug for the day), Celexa+Klonopin has been successful for many people.

Does anyone know anything about whether it's OK to combine Celexa with Rofecoxib (Vioxx)?? I just started the Vioxx for lupus arthritis -usually I ask my GP about possible interactions because he didn't prescribe the celexa and he forgets, but I didn't think to ask about the vioxx . . .

Here's a pretty good drug interaction checker. There doesn't appear to be any interaction between Celxa and Vioxx. There are always some interactions that haven't been identified, but with big-selling meds like Celexa and Vioxx, it's
unlikely that either a proven or hypothesized interaction would have been overlooked.Rick

Thanks . . . something's going wrong, though, and I suspect the Vioxx because I took a can to a friend's house tonight since I wasn't feeling well enough to take the train, and with very little warning I started vomiting - luckily my bag was in my lap, but it was pretty gross. I'm also feeling a little ditzy - I got all the way to my friend's house without realizing that I had put on two different shoes!!! I will check w/ my dr. tomorrow . . .

I asked my GP to refer me to a pdoc and maybe try to help me get off the Klonopin He said sure and gave me a Rx for celexa. Talk about insominia and anxiety. I lost a relationship because of it. My girlfriend said her life was stressful enough without worrying about me, so she pulled the plug. I've been to see the pdoc and the first thing he did was to start weaning me off of celexa and prescribe 100mg of imimpramine to be taken at night. The first night(last night) wasn't a great sleep, but the anxiety has left already. I'm looking forward to the future with this pdoc. He seems to know his stuff and has set goals for me!
