rash while taking paxil

Posted by AVR on August 2, 2001, at 15:50:37

I experienced a rash on one side of my face while taking Paxil. (20 mg) I edged myself down to 5mg in 3 weeks and the rash seems to be still there but it faded some. I also heard that a rash while taking these ssri's can be a sign of a SERIOUS medical condition. What conditions are they? Seritonin syndrome or what? help!

AVR - A rash on one side of the face doesn't sound like an allergic reaction to Paxil (paroxetine), as the rash would most likely be all over your body. It also doesn't sound like serotonin syndrome, as you would notice sweating and racing heart, as well. Usually when a rash is localized it is due to a contact dermatitis (ie. you touched your face to something that you are allergic to. Could you have slept on the rug that has been professionally cleaned or on a different pillow. It would be a good idea to talk to your doc about this, just so everyone is on the same page with your treatment.

Hope that this is of some help. - Cam
