I have dysthymia and avoidant personality. I take Adderall for motivation, mental vigilence , arousal and improved confidence. Adderall alone though wears off after 3 days and I'm only left irritable and tired. I would take 2 day 'holidays' from adderall to restore its effect.
Now I take memantine, a partial NMDA antagonist. With it, adderall has a continuous effect. I have no irritability or poop out. I know memantine has been shown to prevent tolerance to certain drugs (i.e. cocaine and opiates). Can you explain to me how memantine prevents adderall tolerance. Also are there any safety issues when using such a medicine. (BTW, my doctor prescribes it from Germany since it is still undergoing trials in the US.)

In line with the previous question submitted by Andrew B, I was wondering if there are any FDA approved meds that help combat Aderall or other stimulant tolerance? My doc is considering prescribing a stimulant for ADHD inattentive symptoms and tolerance is a major concern for me.Thank you,

I'm currently taking 100mgs amantidine hcl in the morning to boost the effectiveness of concerta and dexidrine. It worries me somewhat as the literature that i've read has warned against using amantidine for individuals who have a history of mood disorders and substance abuse, both of which I have. While I lack the attention span to actualy watch Richelson's quicktime presentation, I would apreciate it if someone could adress this issue briefly.
