Hey Cam, I do not know you but Judy told me to ask your my question. I am bipolar and I take Lamictal and Risperidal and just quite Celexa because it was making my cycle more - it was making me crazy. I was obsessing constantly and getting really depressed about once a month. I could not stop thinking about things in my life I did not like. Anyway, my doctor finally took me off the Celexa, after two years of not getting better on AD'. I have been on AD's for five years and have never gotten better, I think they are toxic for me since I am a bipolar - at least that is what Judy said. Anyway, I was wondering if you knew how long it would be till I stopped cycling from the Celexa. I am still pretty miserable but it has only been three to six days off of it. When do you think I will feel better? Do you agree that the AD's could have been making me worse, do you think I will feel better? I am desperate! I hope you have some words for me. Thanks,
avoet

Avoet - Cycling with bipolar disorder is a very individualized thing. I am not sure that there is an answer to your question on when it will stop. Many people doing start rapid cycling due to what is called a manic switch when one is bipolar and taking an antidepressant. This can happen with any antidepressant, but the older tricyclics seem to be the worst offenders. Celexa (and the SSRIs in general) have a low manic switch rate, but it still does occur.
One theory that I have heard regarding manic switch is that it may be caused by taking away the depression that is buffering the mania. I'm not sure if this is true, but it sounds plausible. It will take about 7 or 10 days to totally get the Celexa out of your body because it's elimination half-life is between 30 to 42 hours.
As for the shoulder aches. Celexa can cause general aches and pains when coming off of it. Anywhere you have hurt yourself in the past (eg sports injuries) would probably ache the most.
Sorry that I cannot help you anymore than this - Cam
