I am being weened off of Ativan and because of the awful side effects of anxiety my doctor put me on Neurontin. The Neurontin works well for my mood and mental health but as far as the physical side effects, I can't handle them. I am a small girl (5'6 105) but I have experianced alot of puffyness and water weight (about 5-10 lbs) with this drug and it is driving me nuts! Plus my appetite has totally diminished and all my added weight is coming from water retention. So I really do not feel too good physically these days. Any suggestions as to another drug which may have the same emotional benefits without the physical aspects?

May I ask what your dx is? A lot of docs out there mistakenly believe that benzos are horrible drugs- having been on them for 3+ years for panic disorder (and having absolutely no success with neurontin) my panic specialist pdoc would not dream of putting me on any other class of meds. Xanax is the best med for panic, although the longer lasting klonopin works just as well for me. Maybe a second opinion? Take care, judy
