Effexor has helped, but there are side effects

Posted by Marc on March 20, 2001, at 13:04:25

I have found from my experience that every drug has side effects. I have been on Anti-depressants for severe anxiety disorder since i was 19. I am now 26 and fairly successful at living my life.

I would like to share my findings with you all:

I started on Paxil. I found it made me very sleepy. I wanted to do nothing but sleep. So I quickly got off that.

I spent the about 4 years on prozac. Went through college on it. It made me feel manic at times. Low at others. I guess it turned me into a manic depressive of sorts. I did not like the feeling of being manic. It made me feel out of control. And towards the end of my 4 years on the drug, it seemed to stop helping me with my anxiety.

I am now on EffexorXR 150mg once a day. I have been on it for the last 3 years. Since being on it, my anxiety has stopped and I have been able to focus on my life. I am now very successful at my career in a very short amount of time. For the first time in my life I am an over acheiver. Something I always knew I was but could not focus on due to my distractions with anxiety disorder. I am very thankful to Effexor and its manufacturers. That being said, I do suffer many of the side effects that you all seem to suffer as well. If I could find a drug that helped as much as effexor but didn't have the side effects, i would switch. But i don't think that drug exists and living without the help of a drug does not seem to be an option for me. I have tried many times.

Side effects i have experienced on Effexor include: (this is all the time)
Nausea
Dizzyness
Thirst
water retention
low cardio vascular endurance
joint ache
sweatiness

Hope my post has helped.

Every drug has good and bad for different people. You just need to weigh those and make sure the good out ways the bad.

Don't lose hope. And don't forget not to rely on the drugs to do all the work. The drug simply allows you to focus and enable you to do all the things you need to do to get yourself better.

I have found that exercise and eating right is essential to keeping my mentally fit.

This is the end of the thread.
