Antipsychotics and Weight Gain Question

Posted by Mr. Scott on March 14, 2001, at 13:59:34

Hi ALL,

Which of these newer (post haldol) antipsychotics is least likely to cause weight gain? Let me know if you've had any experience here.

Mr. Scott,

No change or weight loss:

1. loxapine (Loxitane)
2. molindone (Moban)

Increasing likelihood of weight gain:

1. Ziprasidone (Geodon), the least weight gain
2. Thiothixene (Navane)
3. Fluphenazine (Prolixin, Permitil)
4. Haloperidol (Haldol)
5. Risperidone (Risperdal)
6. Sertindole (Select)
7. Quetiapine (Seroquel)
8. Thioridazine (Mellaril)
9. Olanzapine (Zyprexa)
10. Zotepine
11. Clozapine (Clozaril), the greatest weight gain
