Wellbutrin Side Effects

Posted by Jon Barnes on January 28, 2001, at 13:14:06

Hi all,
A question or two re: Wellbutrin's side effects. I recently added W/B @ 150 mgs per day to my existing meds which are:

Remeron @ 30 mgs
Buspar @ 30 mgs
Adderall @ 30 mgs
Paxil @ 20 mgs
Levothyroid @ 150 mcgs

I've been on W/B for two weeks and I've noticed that the W/B makes me really irritable and a bit confused for the first 4 or 5 hours after taking. I have not noticed any improvement in the depression yet.

Any thoughts on whether the irritability and mental confusion I'm experiencing from W/B will diminish over time, and if so, generally how long does it take.

Also, how long before I should start to notice an improvement in depression from the W/B?

Many thanks.

They say wait 6-8 weeks to see whether a drug is working. Yes, Wellbutrin causes irritability at first but it wears off. I also had hand tremors. It took me a little more than 2 weeks for the irritability to fade, as I recall. Your mileage may vary. Expect also to feel a lot of energy at some point. It will feel wonderful. This also will wear off. When it does, don't think WB's pooped out. As I understand it, that means it's really started to work.

I did notice some confusion and also was irritable for a couple weeks and again after dosage increase. The confusion was tolerable. It took a few weeks to notice a difference in depression. Come to think of it, confusion and irritability subsided when I noticed a noticable lift in my depression; a few weeks.

Good luck.
