Positive effects after 5 weeks ?

Posted by Sigolene on January 29, 2001, at 3:59:57

Each time i try one of the new anti depressant : SSRI's, Effexor, Serzone... I have the same effects. My depression is worsening after about 3 days, i can't sleep, and i feel really bad.
The longest trial i did, with serzone, lasted 5 weeks. And there was no change.
My question is: has anyone already had the same effects with this group of new meds for depression, but could carry on the trial more than 5 weeks, and then had positive effect ?
Thanks for any answer.
Sigolène.

Sigolene, I had something like that happen. Went on lithium (*very* low dose) in very late 93, was warned it could take up to a year to work. Was on that, Effexor, and synthroid for several months before I woke up one morning in March '95 and just felt okay, not depressed, not manic, just like I could live my life, like I could do things.

Sigolene

I've been told it can take up to six months to notice a change, (or perhaps it was a remission.) I've been upping my dose of effexor slowly since October and now I feel some days normal (if I can remember what normal is.) I plan on sticking with it for awhile, though sometimes I feel like chucking them! ;)

Pick one that gave you the least side-effects and try sticking it out for the long run and see what happens. And if need be very slowly, every couple of months, raise the dose until you get to a therapeutic level.
