I currently on 37.5 mgs 17days later I'am not really sleeping well lots of tossing and turning.My brain awakens in the middle of the night and I cannot controll like a flick of a light switch all the things I need to do that morning.This seems to have been the worst side effect for me,I'm very irritable maybe from lack of sleep? or zanax hang- overs I don't know!!!!!!My doctor recommends taken Effexor every other day I did sleep better last night not taken it at all yesterday.But I wonder if this lapse between the meds is normal? This dose does not seem to be working.Any advice what I should do? I have a appt.with my doctor next week?

My hunch would be that the short half life of effexor xr would make it a poor candidate for every other day dosing.
I take effexor with serzone, to counter the overativating effects of the effexor. Perhaps you need a medicine that has less overactivating effects for you. Serzone, Remeron come to mind.

I just switched from XR to the regular stuff due to the insomnia. Also, previous times on the regular Effexor, I've noticed the medication was more effective when I took it EOD. I dunno why, possibly less receptor down-regulation (desensitizing). Currently, I'm sleeping better and feeling better for it.
