I have read in various places that when stimulants are used AS DIRECTED and not abused, and the drug is in slow-release form, then addiction will not occur. Is this true? Other sources say that stimulants are addictive no matter what. I'm considering taking stimulants like Ritalin, Adderall, Provigil, dextroamphetamine, and would like some clarification.

I believe that is true. However, if you tend to be someone prone to addictive behavior, you should monitor yourself carefully. If you find yourself taking doses early, adding doses, taking more than the prescribed dose, etc., then there is probably cause for concern.
I have been taking stim. meds for a few years with no problems. With short acting Ritalin, I did not get addicted, but could see how someone might because the peaks and valleys were pronounced and the low feeling when the med wore off was not pleasant. It was a bit better with Ritalin SR, but it is far better with Adderall.

Provigil has the least chance of addiction, but it may not be the most stimulating. I found it didn't work well with Parnate.

I have been on Adderall (40mgs) for over a year now, never abused it and I AM addicted. It is one I can live with and I am better off with it. My meds were stolen over Christmas when my pdoc was on vacation and I went through some major withdrawl! Yikes! (I now have a back up script for emergencies)

Did you have any reactions with the Parnate or just no positive response? I am on 70 mg Parnate.
