It just occurred to me that the only people I recall mentioning that they had the side effect of weight gain from ADs were women. Do more women than men get this side effect?

Hi Mist (great name!),
I think women tend to gain weight more easily on meds that affect female hormones, such as prolactin. This would include antipsychotics. I've noticed the same trend with some other meds, but since there are many reasons why a med can cause weight gain...who knows. Interestingly, I don't know of any med offhand that tends to cause more weight gain for males than females.

I can think of at least one man who gained a lot of weight on Remeron. And I think there have been others who had problems with SSRIs, Effexor, and Nardil as well.
But you're right, it does seem like a lot more women report it. I thought maybe this was just because women are more bothered by weight gain than men are, but a psychiatrist I talked to about it said that it was more common in women.
This is the end of the thread.
