I am on Zoloft almost 3 weeks and am at 50 mg. I still feel depressed. I know it's early in 'treatment' but I've read conflicting reports. One doctor says 80% of people of Zoloft can do well on 50 mg. Other reports say 50 mg is usually not enough for most people, and 100 mg works for most. Should I stay on 50 mg another week or two, or should I slowly taper up to 75 or 100 mg. I won't be able to see a pdoc for a while as my insurance changes Jan 1st. I feel very sad today and all the stress in my life just keeps getting to me [new job, Lasik surgery [problem], etc. Any suggestions. Thanks.

In reply to ZOLOFT - What's the right dose??????, posted by Joy on December 10, 2000, at 8:22:51
Hi Joy,
My wife and I both take zoloft. For my wife, 200mg was the right amount. For me, 175mg seems to be working. I have a coworker who did OK on 50mg. When I started zoloft, I was doing OK on 150mg for a while.
Answer: It all depends. I would doubt that anything less than 100 mg would do much unless you are a waif. Also, my wife and I both augment the zoloft with 150mg BID wellbutrin. That is what it really took to get everything going OK.
Good luck and do your best to relax,
Ted

Answer: Enough. Varies by person. It takes 6-8 weeks before the antidepressant effect starts, so a reasonable dose during this period is indicated.
Once you hit 6-8 weeks you can adjust the dose for max effect vs. side effects or if no effect raise the dose.james
