I have a friend that has not been able to sleep since he started Serzone about a month ago...
Whatsup with that?
My new doctor told me that Wellbutrin will not make you drop IQ and concentration...???
Am I in some Bizzarro Universe? Serzone's a great sleep aid, and I forgot words like "shoe" during my brief time on Wellbutrin...But mostly, I'm worried about my friend. He is going out of his mind and has a terrible doctor.
After one month, he's at 400 mgs of Serzone, feels more depressed, irritable, and can't sleep. I think he should reverse his course b.c. Serzone just isn't right for some people...but I'm not his doctor. His doctor, however, doesn't ever call back and got him hooked on Valium (he's 23)
Any suggestions?

First, obviously he needs a new doctor, but if your friend is hooked on valium and he's still getting it from this guy, he won't want a new doctor. Is this doc a psychiatrist or a GP? And what is his address? (Just kidding.)Try to talk your friend into getting another opinion on the serzone, at least. As you know, everyone's chemistry is different and people react in a variety of ways to medication. Your friend's growing depression and irritability are probably due to a lack of sleep. I used to have severe problems with insomnia, and it can turn you into a perfect ass. Now I take 100 mg. seroquel at bedtime and it knocks me right out.
It's not a sleeping pill, and I haven't had to increase the dosage for it to stay effective. One more comment- I worked in a medical office for years, and I'm guessing that your friend's doctor does not return his calls because he suspects your friend just wants more valium. This isn't good patient care, but doctors are people too and some of them have a tough time just saying 'no'.
Good luck-
Gracie

One general principle that I have learned from people here is that different people react differently to each of these meds. Yes, there are some trends, but that doesn't preclude an atypical response.

Note that word finding difficulties and IQ are not the same thing.
