hey Judy, thanks for your message I am not sure if I am bipolar 1 or 2. my hospital chart said bipolar mixed typed when I tried committing suicide. This runs in the family as my grandfather had it and my mother had it. My mother ended up committing suicide with it, she took lithium. I am 41 and left my husband of 18 years. I have been struggling to find the right medication. I did take depakote. 1500 mg but it made me gain weight and lose hair. I like topamax. In fact I lost 40 pounds. down to 105 pounds!!! well I have a 17 yr old daughter and I am starting to see the signs of bipolar in her.

Sherry,
When you open a post on your thread and want to respond scroll down and you will be able to add a follow-up. I keep losing you! Anyway, if you had a mixed episode, you have bipolar 1 and all the more reason not to be on an AD. You sound like me- lost my Dad (with manic depression) to an OD on lithium when I was 19, my Mom had died a year earlier and I was MESSED UP for quite a while. Anyway- here you are, divorced worried about your daughter and it's the holidays which bring family stuff out so guess what- you are major stressed and probably set up for an episode. Which is why I like the benzos, they really calm you down. PLEASE tell me how you got up to your dose of topamax, I think I went to fast -I'm on 150mg now and hate it!- told my pdoc I want off, he said lower and don't stop so I cut way back and am actually feeling pretty good. Take care- Judy
