I take topamax and celexa for bipolar. I dont know if its because of the holidays but I am extremely maniky and switching to days of depression. My psychiatrist increased by topamax and celexa. He said my next visit he if this is working he wants to try a new depakote that just came out that does not cause weight gain, has anyone heard of this?? I dont know if he is just trying to trick me ....

Hi Sherrie- I responded to your other post- but I felt the celexa was causing your instability. Apparently the topamax will negate any of the depakote weight gain (my shrink claims) and you probably need it to slow the mania. What about benzos- xanax, ativan, klonopin? Maybe you could take one of them until you are through the holidays. Take care- Judy

I don't know anything about Depakotes, but I take Topamax, 50 mg, and Celexa, 40 mg. They SEEM to help except for some sedation, but I deal more with depression than mania.
How do Depakotes help? Do you think you need to lower your Celexa? Has the Topamax worked as an appetite suppressant? It did for me.
Good luck.
