I know there have been threads in the past on this subject but I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions. I currently take 225mgs Effexor XR, 1200mgs Neurontin, and 75mgs Seroquel. I am so tired that I can go to sleep anytime, anywhere. Would it help if I took most of the meds at night (currently I only take 600mgs Neurontin at night)? Help anyone???

Hi Erinn,
Taking methylphenidate (generic Ritalin) during the day might help you stay awake and functional while also increasing the anti-depressant effects of Effexor. Your physician will generally want to make sure you are getting sufficient sleep at night, etc. before prescribing stimulants. Ask your doctor if she/he thinks it would be appropriate for you to try Ritalin or another stimulant in combination with what you are already taking.
If a stimulant is prescribed, my totally unqualified but experiential advice is to start with one-quarter of the initial amount until you know how it will affect you, and gradually build up to the amount you actually need.
For some of us who need to use daytime methylphenidate, there seems to be a threshold amount over which it stops acting as a stimulant and makes us sleepy instead. This amount varies by individual; hence, my suggestion to start out low and find your own best level. This is also a good incentive to keep your dose as low as practicable -- that is, not trying to stay up late or get more work done by taking additional stimulants.
Good luck. Please let us know how things work out for you.
Best wishes,
Mark H.

You might ask your Doc about adding some modafinil(ProVigil). It can really help with the excessive sleepiness and can potentially augment your antidepressant. It is pretty danged expensive though. Good luck.

James here....
Is it the meds that are making you sleepy, or did this exist before the meds ?
Check your thyroid and read Noa's thyroid links.james

I avoid taking Neurontin in the morning for that reason. Otherwise I feel sedated most of the day.
This is the end of the thread.
