Celexa questions

Posted by ETrainum on October 19, 2000, at 9:42:50

Remeron wasn't working for me, so my doc switched me
to Celexa (I've had good luck with SSRI's in the past.)
I went cold turkey off the Remeron Saturday, and have
been taking 10 mg. of Celexa since Monday. I feel awful.
Can't eat, can't sleep, plus still have the depression
symptoms that weren't going away with the Remeron --
crying a lot, reliving really difficult times that
happened a year ago, thinking obsessively about them
and even flashing back to difficult times in my
childhood. I would give anything for a good night's
sleep. Should I take a small dose of my Remeron, even
though I went off it Saturday (cold turkey, against my
doc's advice -- now I wish i'd listened to her!). My
doc is out of town for 10 days and I don't know how to
reach her! I'm waking up during the night and early
in the morning with that panicky feeling in my stomach.
It grips me and pulls me out of the comfort of sleep.

Are these Celexa side effects that will go away? I
had good luck with Celexa in the past, but I went on it
whilst weaing off Zoloft, so I guess the side effects
weren't so bad. How long till Celexa starts working?
I can't take this much longer.

Also, does anyone know the link to the EGroups folder
on Celexa, if there is one?

Thanks!

Our doctors usually have someone else we can contact when they are away. Does yours have someone standing in or someone to call in case of problems? If not, I might suggest going to an emergency room. You sound like you are having post traumatic stress symptoms or anxiety disorder symptoms. Celexa aggravated my anxiety disorder and I told my doctor and he prescribed something else. I now take Paxil and Effexor. I would not take the Remeron, too because you never know what will happen. I think you need to talk to a doctor and a.s.a.p. Good luck. Try and relax, too, if you can-maybe a hot bath or a walk, too?

I was given Celexa for anxiety and it made it ten times worse but my doc said I should stick it out and I'm glad I did. My experience with Celexa:

Week 1: Severe anxiety hits you like a brick wall - especially panic and obsessive thoughts.
Week 2: Side effects of nausia, headaches (how they hurt!!!!) and shakiness - anxiety lessened.
Week 3: Started to feel better and anxiety went except panic remained but felt more positive.
Week 4: Anxiety and panic almost completely gone and I am quite fearless - phobias seem laughable now but side effects have also lessened except for a very stiff neck and jaw.
Week 5: Side effects gone, anxiety gone, panic attacks almost surface but not quite. However, it all feels quite near the surface.
Week 6: Feel great - just depleted and a little worrisome at times. Glad I stuck it out.

Best of luck! Celexa is best started on a half dose for first week or two and then increased when used for anxiety, Does work though.

I took Celexa for months and the side effects never stopped, in fact they worsened. It made my anxiety disorder unbearable but it did help my depression. However, I would rather be depressed than to have my anxiety disorder go wild, as it did. Some of the activating ssri's tend to make me anxious and I always give them a few months, unless they make me completely nuts then I go off them sooner.
