Wellbutrin, BuSpar, Imipramine etc,

Posted by angelrose on October 12, 2000, at 15:14:06

Hi, to all:
My Doctor gave me permission to start Wellbutrin and ditch the Paxil. Started on 75 mg this morning.
We'll see how it goes.
He suggested Imipramine to take at night.

Anybody have thoughts on Imipramine? good, bad or indifferent.

I'll keep posting on my Wellbutrin, BuSpar trial.

Hi Angelrose,
Your doc probably gave you Imipramine for sleep. It belongs to a class of antidpressants that are generally superior to SSRIs, but usually avoided due to harsher side effects. Common side effects might be dry mouth or constipation. But sleep should be good, and even just a little Imipramine could work better than you expect. Another option for sleep with Wellbutrin might have been Remeron, but overall I think Imipramine stands a better chance of producing good results as well.

In clinical studies, the tricyclics (like Imipramine) were generally equal in efficacy to SSRIs....IF the criteria used to measure success was a 50% reduction of symptoms. However, when the criteria was changed to complete euthymia (100% reduction of symptoms), the tricyclics far outperformed the SSRIs.

Hi Angelrose,

My husband's experience with BuSpar is that his heart rate dropped to 35, physically trembling with chills. His doc said it couldn't be the BuSpar but he stopped it immediately and felt fine 48 hours later. My sister takes BuSpar like candy and says it works wonders for her with no ill effects.
