I have been taking Prozac (40-60mg/day) for probably the last 10 years. Up until about a month ago my depression has been under control. But now my depression is back and I am not dealing well at all. I went to the dr. yesterday and he suggested I switch medications to Serzone. He told me I would need to be off Prozac for around 3 weeks. When he told me this I became very upset, as in the past if I allow myself to run out of Prozac for a couple of days, I CAN TELL. He suggested that I must metobolize my medicine quickly and that I should trying being off Prozac for 3-4 days and then start with Serzone 50 mg in the AM and 50 mg in the PM for 5 days then move up to 100 mg in the AM and 100 mg in the PM. Starting on day 13 I would be up to 150 mg in the AM and 150 mg in the PM.
I am extremely afraid to start a different medication. I already have trouble with wanting to sleep a large number of hours. I can't afford to miss several days of work as I have already missed the last two.
Does anyone have any information/comments that could help me switch from Prozac to Serzone? I would greatly appreciate it.
