Hey,
Been on prozac for awhile, years actually. Just this past
year I started seeing a psychiatrist instead of a general
practicioner and she thinks (after following me a year)
that I have cyclothymia, and has just put me on a mood
stablilizer (neurotin)in addition to my prozac. She's
starting me very slow and low so I won't notice anything
for a month probably. Anyone have any experience with
this? What should I expect?
I've recently broken off an engagement and I've felt
miserable and unsure about my decision for about 2
months. I don't feel I can go back, but I don't feel
like I can let it go and move forward. Maybe this is all
natural. But I chew on the questions surrounding this
issue like a Jack Russell terrier with a rag doll--nonstop,
obsessively--my mind needs a break from all the chewing.
I don't know...I'm lost in the forrest, sad and scared.

Having the right Dx really helps. Because treatments
overlap even with the wrong Dx things can get better.
I don't know much about cyclothymia but it is clear
the cyclying componant needs specific treatment, i.e
a mood stablizer. AD's can treat the depressive part while
making the cyclying worse, this is very true in Bipolor.I would suspect you are on the right track. Someone else
on this list can fill you in on Neurotin, all I can say
is that some find it very effective.James
