Dosage Trick etc.

Posted by Kiris on August 15, 2000, at 22:19:23

I just started on this med a few days ago and have not had any side effects. My doctor started me on 12.5 mg and said to stay at the dosage for two weeks since I am very sensitive to medicine. Although I haven't noticed any negative side effects, I have already noticed a slight elevation in mood (of course this could be placebo but I am still glad). I have taken Zoloft, Paxil, Remeron and Prozac without any success. I was just wondering if anyone could share any sucess stories they've had with Effexor XR. There are so many negative stories on this site and I was interested in hearing from someone who might have some good news for those of us new to it who are planning on sticking it out for a while. Thanks:)

Hi,
I would recommend that you stick it out. There are many previous posts from people who are doing well on this med. My side effects are few and bearable. Although I don't feel back to normal, whatever that is, I'm feeling better than I have in quite a while. Give the med a chance and increase (or decrease) your dose as your doctor advises.
Continue to let us know how you're doing.

Good luck,
Cakes

Do I read you correctly that you are on 12.5 mg of effexor xr??? I had no idea they were putting out such a small dose. If this is correct, it is great, because I think it works best to start with a small dose of it and titrate up very slowly.

BTW, I find effexor xr to be helpful, and have had negative effects only at higher doses (sleeplessness, jitteriness, etc.), but the negative effects are almost completely countered by an equal dose of serzone, which was initiated to augment the effexor's antidepressant effects, and turned out to have the added benefit of also undoing the negative effects of the effexor (for the most part, and certainly adequately).

Good luck.
