CAN PAXIL BE TAKEN WITH ELAVIL? COULD THE ELAVIL
POSSIBLY RENDER THE PAXIL INEFFECTIVE OR LESS EFFECTIVE
THAN IT WOULD BE IF IT WERE TAKEN ALONE? PLEASE LET

I don't think it would render it less effective. On the contrary, I would imagine the combo would possibly heighten the effect. SSRIs can slow the metabolization of other medications, which leaves them in your system longer, not broken down.
Take this as the speculations of a non-scientist, please. Hopefully, John or Scott or Adam or James or Cam or Elizabeth, et al, will chime in with more info.

Elavil (a TCA-TriCyclic Antidepressant generic name Amitriptyline) combined with Paxil (SSRI-selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor) is an effective combination for enhancing the effects of both meds. I've been on a handful of combined med protocols, and they've always been better than any one med alone.
Currently, I'm on three meds, a CNS (Central Nervous System) stimulant, a TCA that happens to be Amitriptyline, and Serzone (a newer SSRI generic name Nefazodone); which is definitely doing something that neither the Amitriptyline nor the CNS Stimulant did alone.

As I said in your thread above, I take Wellbutrin with Nortriptyline and it is a good combo for me. I took Elavil at one point about ten years ago and it definitely helped. It also helped my father who had depression problems. Some people react best to the older AD's but also get an extra boost from combining AD's. As far as I know from personal experiences this combo may very well workout well for you.
