BOXED IN, Celexa question?

Posted by Danny on May 11, 2000, at 0:59:24

I'm in a corner. Bad gi problems and ongoing tachycardia (probably due to low weight, no disease etc.) Anyway, been through most of the AD's. On paxil for years, then it pooped. I've tried Celexa, but it made me anxious and I quit after a week. I respond to low doses of drugs, and often very quickly. I'm wondering if anyone has experienced anxiety with Celexa which then wore off as a side effect. It didn't effect me negatively GI or Cardio-wise, which almost everything else has. thanks.

Just an idea, Danny, but maybe try the Celexa but add small, .5 to 1mg Klonopin to the mix. With tachycardia, it wouldn't be a bad idea to have some Klonopin around anyway.
Very unprofessional opinion so hopefully you'll get more responses..good luck.
If you get a chance, and haven't already, tell us the other drugs you've tried.

Hey Danny--First of all thanks for the website on IBS. Very informative. Next, the Celexa. I had severe anxiety when I first started it but I lowered the dose and it got a bit better. I have recently upped it to 20mg/day and am feeling better in the depression dept but the anxiety is still there--bad too. I haven't been able to leave my house in a week--due in part to the anxiety and also the IBS. The IBS certainly has gotten worse with the celexa. The doc gave me Xanax for the panic and palpitations but it hasn't done a damn thing. Have you tried Dicetel for the IBS? It helped me for quite a long time but had to get off it because of some drug interaction stuff. Miss it though, it DID work. Sorry-not much help I guess. I'm in same boat as you. Here-grab an oar, we can row to shore together. Keep in touch.
Hugs***Tina

Danny - All SSRIs seem to increase anxiety at first, but as the body's neuronal receptors stabilize (adjust?), the SSRIs actually do ease anxiety (in most cases). You may need to give Celexa a month (or at least a couple of weeks) for the anxiety side effect to dissipate. - Cam
