Hello,

I wanted to know... I am on zoloft, tegretol, ativan and zyprexa. I am doing very well, thank god.

I'm on 300mg of zoloft, someone said, that was a high dose to take. Why would my doctor perscribe that to me????

Thank you
Rose

Hi Rose!
Zoloft is a good SSRI, is usually well tolerated & has many indications (depression, panic d/o, PTSD & OCD). The usual daily max is 200 mg., but pdocs have the training to increase that amount if necessary. Its important you trust your pdoc & keep under his/her close supervision.

Even if it is a high dose, you say you feel good. I'm sure your doctor started you on a lower dose and gradually increased it to 300 mg, right?

The amount of medication that is necessary for each of us to feel good varies widely. As long as you have a good relationship with your doctor and feel that the medication is working that's all that should matter.

I think a good doctor knows how high a dosage to prescribe. I would ask him/her about your concerns about the dosage. The average person only knows about "average" doses, not dosages that may be outside the norm.

Continued good luck on your combo...

MA

That was me who was a bit taken aback. Glad to hear it's working well for you -- that's what was missing from your other thread and what I was looking for.

As Linda & MA have said, you and your pdoc know best what's best for you. If it works, run with it.

Cheers,
bob

i'm not sure what your diagnosis is (are?), but if OCD is included in them, higher dosages of SSRIs tend to work much better than standard dosages.
just a thought.

glad to hear that your combination is working (as this is what really counts!)
