Parnate: Need more anecdotal info pls

Posted by Canadian Michele on January 9, 2000, at 18:20:02

Hi,

I know there have been lots of posts this month already re Parnate but I am seeing my Psychdoc on Tues and I am seriously considering this drug for anxiety/depression. There are lots of side-effects I know (I have been doing homework). I am mainly looking for personal experiences with this drug. I appreciate your input.

Thanks Michele

Michelle: I have had a great response to Parnate (60mg + 900 mg lithium). It gave me very few side effects (cold intolerance and around 7-8pm at night, I crash-in a nice way-sleepy time, and by the way, sleep very well). Let me know if you need more specific info and I'll be glad to help you in any way I can. Many Blessings,

S. Suggs

Michele,
I took Parnate briefly last summer, but discontinued it due to side effects. For the first week or so, I was waking up early every day (for me, unheard of), ready to go, but would crash around 2. I was also hardly eating anything (again, a positive effect for me), but that also diminished within a week or 2. The main negative side-effect was the orthostatic hypotension--at first, I would just get dizzy if I got up or turned my head too quickly. But then it started to happen spontaneously: I'd just be walking down the street and the world would go topsy-turvy, and I actually fell over in the kitchen once because of that. I wish that aspect hadn't been so bad, because I never really had a chance to fully evaluate the AD properties--I just couldn't take the spontaneous extreme dizzy spells. I can't remember any other major side-effects, other than extreme dry-mouth, which was also really aggravating for me as I'm a singer (sometimes, anyway), and it really got in the way. But I did start drinking LOTS of water!

This is the end of the thread.
