i am trying to get some info on giving up prozac.this drug has been perscribed for a girl that suffered from
depression after birth. she has been taking it for about 4 years but said to have stopped it now. While being on it she started drinking. Her whole behaviour
has gone very strange again, she still suffers from
depression.I was told that she gave up prozac. We are
wondering 'how bad' p. is interacting with alcohol and
if she possibly suffers being addicted.should she be
taking st-john's-wort or some other herb? I know all
is a bit vage but i try to find out for her mother
who hasn't got a computer and i don't know the girl
myself. please answer quickly because i'd have to send all info to germany translated and per(snail)mail.
Please don't get me wrong, we're not trying to "snoop
her out", we're trying to understand what's going on.
We are very concerned. Thank you very much.

Your post is a bit confusing. Has this person
completely stopped Prozac and started drinking? In that
case, the alcohol is probably being used to relieve her
depression in place of Prozac. Or is she drinking concurrently with
the use of Prozac, which could mean any number of things:
a larger dose of Prozac is required, or a different antidepressant,
or a mood-regulator if she is really bipolar, etc. No matter-
most AD's come with warning labels against mixing with alcohol.
In any case, unless directed by her doc, she should
NOT use any herb-remedy while taking other prescribed
AD's. But if she's addicted to "street-drugs" then it may be necessary
to check into a clinic that specializes in detox (in Germany?)
See if you can get some additional info.
This is the end of the thread.
