Hi there Nikki. Ultram seems like a sound treatment for depression, but don't use it in combination with standard antidepressants as there is a potential for interactions.
You'd start the Ultram at50mg 4 times a day. It may take a few weeks to kick in, but earlier response is possible too. It's not really known what the effective dose would be, but don't go above 400mg/day.
My experience was that it had no side effects. It is much more tolerable than drugs like codeine, morphine, etc. The main serious side effect is seizures, so don't use it in combination with other proconvulsant drugs or if you have a history of seizure disorder. Otherwise, the side effects are similar to those of other opioids, but they are milder.

Hi Nikki,
I take Ultram 150-200mg/day and feel the best I have in a long time. I've found it has few side effects and I feel more like myself on it than I do with antidepressants. Generally I have a lot of problems with side-effects but this is one I can take. At first it made me dizzy but it may have been due to the Effexor I was on at the time. Since starting Ultram I've quit Effexor and feel great.
My doc gave me Ultram for chronic pain - I didn't know it would make me feel so good. BTW my insurance gave me a really hard time before they would cover it. It took a month to get approval.
Good luck,
anne
