RISPERDOL LONG TERM EFFICACY & SIDE EFFECTS

Posted by Gil on May 31, 1999, at 10:54:52

Sorry, I put the wrong e-mail address on the first message. this should be correct.
My Mother-in-law is a schizophrenic now taking Risperdol and we (the family) are not sure if she is relapsing because she is not taking her meds (palming them or spitting them out when Dad isn't looking) or if there is a long-term efficacy element involved with Risperdol. Also, what are the standard side-effects of this drug. The doctor she sees (only if there is an emergency "episode") is not too good at giving information to the family. She has been diagnosed as schizophrenic now for about 30 years, having gone through many in-patient shock therapy treatments. She is in her mid-seventies and still as ill as she was twenty years ago, contrary to the belief that age decreases the patient's symptoms. Until she started taking Risperdol about 4 to 5 years ago she was non-responsive to drug therapy. Thanks for any information that you can give.
