Back to Prozac

Posted by Shelley on March 17, 1999, at 17:59:13

Is this a never ending circle? Six months off meds and I develop a 10+ day migraine. The pain meds interfere with an already troubled sleep patttern, resulting in escalating pain. My docs agree to a low dose regiment of what I call Vitamin P, Prozac. O, back to square one. I took it and slept like a baby, but my head still pounds. Meanwhile, withdrawing from Halcion has been postponed. I have been offered the option of a 2 week inpatient stay to get this dreaded drug out of my system. I'm hoping, eternally, optimistic that Prozac will help with the anxiety of withdrawing and I can avoid a hospital stay. Always wishful, Shelley

Shelley- Glad to hear from you. Why more fearful though? Funny, you are back to prozac and I am back to elavil (a component of triavil, which is the first AD I was on for five years). I'm feeling well, but I want to stop using the ativan to sleep. I'm hoping the elavil will be enough to sleep and I can wean myself off the ativan again. I did this when I was on the remeron and it worked then, but when I stopped taking the remeron I had to go back to the ativan to sleep. Oh the fun on the medication merry-go-round!

Hi Pat! O, more fearful, well, I can't really remember. I think it's really just being more "aware" of the world around me rather than fearful. I am having a terribly "foggy" day. I'm okay. Slept 20 hours straight, I think the Prozac "kicked in." Sleepy again already. How are you? How's Elavil? I'm terribly allergic to it. -Shell

Hi Shelley- Glad you got some rest - that always helps! Me too. Are your headaches any better by now? How goes it with the halcion? I am so afraid that I'll never be able to get off ativan and I'll have to go inpatient too. I would have such a hard time telling people that (like my boss). You are allergic to elavil, and I am so "allergic" to prozac! The elavil is going pretty well now. I have no anxiety at all and haven't had to use ativan for anything other than sleep. I am not really up to a "theraputic" dose of elavil, but I am still feeling pretty well. Maybe I am so sensitive to medications that I don't NEED more. Anyway, doc says he will probably want to increase elavil after this month. I am hopeful that increasing the elavil might allow me to start tapering off ativan. The combination of the two drugs has been slightly sedating during the daytime. Anyway, this is so much more than you asked for! They do call this site "babble" for a good reason!

Hi Pat!! It's nice to hear what's happening with others. Great for you that the Elavil helps. The Prozac took the edge off my 10 day migraine and one day I forgot that my head hurt. Thankfully, I love when ADs intervene where they are supposed to, and don't make me sicker. I can only tolerate very small doses of anything. Don't be surprised to find that out about yourself. It's hard to remember to take meds every other day, but it works best for me. I'm not sure I'm giving up on all benzos, Klonopin is very helpful to me, but Halcion and Restoril are a waste of my money and make me terribly sick when I cut back even a tiny bit. We'll see in a few weeks. meanwhile, I'll miss all this babble while I'm inpatient,
Shelley
